CELLULITE TREATMENT
Cellulite consists of the dimpled appearance of skin caused by fat deposits that are just beneath the skin. It generally appears on skin in the abdomen, lower limbs, and pelvic region. Most often, cellulite manifests itself in adult life on many areas of the body.
Cellulite is located at the subcutaneous fatty layer. There are 3 different grades of cellulite:
1. Grade 1 classification sees no clinical symptoms, but a microscopic examination of cells from the area detects underlying anatomical changes.
2. Grade 2 cellulite requires the skin to show pallor (pastiness), be lower temperature, and have decreased elasticity in addition to anatomical changes noted by microscopic examinations.
3. Grade 3 cellulite has visible roughness of the skin (like an orange peel) along with all grade 2 signs.

Spa RF is a non-invasive procedure that tightens and shapes the skin by promoting collagen production. Prior to treatment, baby oil is applied to the area the client wishes to treat, the hand piece is then passed over the skin multiple times heating up the skin, causing the area to appear red and feel warm. The temperature gauge is applied to the skin often throughout the treatment so we are always aware of the amount of heat we are delivering into the dermis. Radiofrequency waves penetrate the subcutaneous tissue, allowing the water molecules to rotate at a speed of 40 million times per second. The friction causes the fat cells to compress; the cells are then pushed towards the lymph nodes. The lymph nodes are drained through natural activity of the body and drainage is improved by a healthy diet and regular exercise.
Some of the causes of cellulite may include the following:
• Hormonal factors: It is probable that hormones do play a factor in the formation of cellulite. Estrogen is responsible for the development of fat cells mainly around the breasts, thighs and buttocks. Progesterone can cause fluid retention, poor circulation, weight gain and in turn the development of cellulite
• Genetics: Genes may predispose an individual to certain characteristics linked with cellulite. Some people are born with more fat cells, gender (females are more likely to develop cellulite), weak metabolism, circulatory insufficiency, fragile lymphatic vessels or poor circulation, etc...
• Diet: Although individuals of any shape or size could have cellulite, people who eat a lot of fattening foods, carbohydrates, or salt are likely to have greater amounts of cellulite.
• Smoking: Nicotine found in cigarettes is a vasoconstrictor which means it can cause the constriction of blood vessels reducing microcirculation. Smoke is very damaging to capillary walls, which causes inflammation.
• Clothing: Tight elastic clothing around the waste or across the buttocks (limiting blood flow) may contribute to the creation of cellulite.
